The anonymous artist’s masterful technique gives rise to an intricate spatial rhythm, with delicate brushstrokes and fine details rendered in a range of golds, reds, blues, and whites, evoking an atmosphere both luminous and reverent. As the diptych is enlarged to 44×70 inches, its chromatic structure becomes even more pronounced, with the dominant golds and blues establishing a sense of depth that belies the work’s relatively flat surface.
