Curatorial Narrative The Affiche de recrutement de l’Arme de Vichy 3e bataillon du gnie, created between 1940 and 1942, finds its place within the Art Deco movement’s later phase, a period marked by an increased emphasis on functionality and mass production. The artist’s use of linear brushwork imbues the image with a sense of dynamism, as if the very structures depicted are in motion. This is achieved through the strategic placement of lines that create a sense of depth, drawing the viewer’s eye through the composition.
