The fine brushwork employed in this work demonstrates an acute understanding of sfumato, achieved through the subtle gradations of sepia tones that imbue the composition with atmospheric depth. As we navigate the spatial rhythm of the piece, our gaze is drawn to the intricate play of black lines, which create a sense of visual tension while maintaining a sense of composure. Upon enlargement to 44×72, the monochromatic palette begins to reveal its subtleties, modulating from deep sepia hues in the foreground to lighter gradations towards the background. This deliberate manipulation of chromatic structure creates an effect of spatial recession, drawing our attention towards the distant recesses
