Curatorial Narrative The enigmatic “Bronzefirnispapier (greres schneckenfrmiges Rankenmuster)” emerges from the obscure workshops of 17th-century Europe, its creation dating back to a period when artistic conventions were still being codified. As we examine this work, now, it is evident that its anonymous creator has employed an intriguing combination of techniques often associated with ceramics and metalwork, albeit in a reduced format. This hybrid approach yields a piece that oscillates between the tactile quality of three-dimensional forms and the two-dimensionality of paper. When enlarged to 44×69 inches, this work reveals itself as a masterclass in spatial rhythm and chromatic structure.
