Curatorial Narrative The anonymous artist’s “Goddess Kali” stands at the intersection of traditional Indian religious art and the modernist impulse. Painted circa 188085, this work embodies the stylistic shifts that occurred during the late 19th century in India as indigenous artistic traditions began to incorporate Western techniques and aesthetics.
