Curatorial Narrative Anny Dollschein’s “Krsistrae” occupies a significant position within the landscape tradition of 20th-century European art. Executed in an Impressionistic style after 1938, it is tempting to associate this work with the existential anxieties of modernity that pervaded art production at the time. However, Dollschein’s loose brushwork and soft palette suggest a more contemplative attitude towards the subject matter. Rather than capturing the fleeting effects of light, as in traditional Impressionism, “Krsistrae” presents a serene and introspective landscape, characterized by sweeping vistas and muted colors. Upon enlargement to 60×44 inches, the chromatic structure of “Krsistrae” reveals itself to be both expansive and intimate. The soft greens and blues, subtly intertwined with earthy reds and browns, seem to dissolve any sense of spatial boundaries, creating a harmonious fusion of Scandinavian and Modern Minima
