Curatorial Narrative The anonymous artist’s “Machine massacre. War the world’s enemy. Support disarmament conference” (1930) occupies a pivotal position within the Expressionist movement of the early 20th century. Executed in stark black and white, this marine seascape embodies the Modernist ideal of dematerialization, stripping the subject to its essence through linear brushwork that imbues each element with a sense of tension and urgency.
