Curatorial Narrative In the late 18th century, Andr Jacob Roubo’s “Petites commodes, ecoinsons, et chiffonnieres” exemplifies the Rococo period’s characteristic marriage of geometric precision and figurative subject matter. Executed between 1769 and 1774, this work demonstrates the artist’s technical skill in capturing the nuances of light and shadow through linear brushwork that imbues the composition with a sense of depth and atmosphere. The monochromatic palette, comprising various shades of gray, creates a chromatic structure that invites contemplation rather than visual excitement.
