Curatorial Narrative The creation of Annemarie Irmler’s “Schabloniertes Papier” series between 1915 and 1927 situates the artist within the avant-garde landscape of early 20th-century Germany, where the likes of Kandinsky and Klee were pushing the boundaries of modern art. At this time, Irmler’s work was characterized by its emphasis on fine brushwork and a restrained palette that oscillated between earthy browns and tans, imbuing her abstract forms with an atmospheric weight that seemed to hover between representation and abstraction.
